Over 85 years ago, Denise Keehan-Smith's grandparents moved to Woodside, and it has been her family’s home ever since. Denise grew up in Woodside, attended PS 11 and St. Sebastian’s Catholic Academy for grammar school and Bryant High School. She has been living with her husband Casey (a Special Ed high school teacher in Long Island City) in Woodside’s Big Six Towers for nearly 20 years. Denise loves this community because it's a small town in a big city, and she's proud that it is the place she has always called home.
Denise spent over thirty years working at a travel technology company while also furthering her education. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from City College, CUNY and earned her Executive Master's Degree in the Management of Technology from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, both in a traditional classroom setting.
Denise was appointed to Community Board 2, Queens in April, 2012. She was elected to Board Secretary in 2014 and became the Transportation Committee Chairwoman in 2015. One year later in June, 2016 she was elected to Chairwoman of Community Board 2 where she served with distinction until June, 2020. While serving in the capacity of Chairwoman, Denise also served on the Amazon Community Advisory Council as Co-Chair of the GPP Subcommittee, Sunnyside Yards Steering Committee Member, spearheaded a team of LIC Stakeholders to develop a comprehensive waterfront plan, served on the Kosciuszko Bridge Stakeholders Committee, the LaGuardia Airport Roundtable Committee, QNS Rail Board Secretary, Northstar Community Advisory Board Committee, Blissville, Neighborhood Advisory Board, District 2 as well as serving as President of Big Six Towers, Woodside.
